French Oak Flooring

White Oak is one of the most used wood species in American homes due to its consistency and stability. White Oak is both available in North America and Europe most commonly known for French and German White Oak. North American White Oak is most commonly cut using the Plain Sawn method. The European White Oak is known for the specific center cut which produces the results of both plain, rift, and quarter-sawn looks giving the hardwood a unique style but also increased growth cycle resulting in lower production. American mills have recently started adopting this method for its lively visual patterns.

Benefits of White Oak Hardwood Flooring:

White Oak offers great stability in our climate which will be more forgiving of humidity fluctuations. This wood species is great for different treatments such as staining, fuming, lye, whitewash and carbonizing to enhance the grain features. Texture treatments such as wire brush or hand scrape also show up well due to the raised grain nature of the wood.

Best Applications of White Oak Flooring:

Since White Oak is offered in a variety of colors, this wood is also suitable to use as flooring in many different rooms. For low lit rooms aim for lighter colors which will increase the openness of the area. Darker and Medium tones are great for large well-lit areas such as living rooms and great rooms. Due to its increased stability White Oak is a great option for beach homes, lake homes, basements, living rooms over crawl space, and over radiant heat.
